Propylene Glycol Methyl Ether Acetate (PMA) and Propylene glycol methyl ether propionate (PMP) are 

low toxicity high-grade solvents in industry in whose molecules which have ether bond, carbonyl group 

which can be formed a structure of ester, as well as alkyl. In such a molecule, there is a polar part and a 

non-polar which the two functional groups restrain and repel one another while they individually 

perform their natural functions, thus having a certain dissolution with either a polar substance or a 

non-polar substance. 

Propylene glycol ethers have two groups with strong solvency in the chemical structure - ethers and 

hydroxyl groups, the former is lipophilic and can dissolve hydrophobic compounds; the latter is 

hydrophilic, soluble in water-soluble compounds, and is a versatile solvent with excellent performance, 

and is known as a “universal” solvent. 

Propylene glycol ethers can be used as solvents for alkyd resin, acrylic resin and polyester paint etc. In 

painting industry, surface films of those paints prepared for the aid of it being characterized by clean, 

even and fast. It can substitute for alcohol solvents during the resolution of dyes as a good kind of 

coupler, besides in the production of printing ink, changing some formulas by using in can reduce 

toxicity, so as to improve operation environment and printing quality.

Ethylene glycol methyl ether (EM) is also named methyl cellosolve, Ethylene glycol ethyl ether (EE, ECS) 

is also named ethyl cellosolve, 2-ethoxy ethanol. Ethylene glycol butyl ether (EB, Bcs) is also named 

butyl cellosolve, 2-butoxy ethanol, are alcohol ether solvent with excellent properties. 

It can be mainly used in solvent for cellulose acetate, synthetic resin, paint; used for preparing paint 

thinners, paint remove in the industry of paint; used as extraction solvent in the industries of medicine; 

used as plasticizer in the plastic industries; used as fiber lubricant, dispersant in the industry of textile; 

also used as pesticide dispersant, intermediate for organic synthesis, secondary solvent, analytical 

reagent.

Ethylene glycol ethyl ether acetate (CAC) and Ethylene glycol butyl ether acetate (BGA) are ester 

solvents with excellent properties. Mainly used in solvent for painting metal, furniture paints; also used 

as solvent of protective coating, dyestuff, colophony, leather, printing ink; used in prescription of 

surface cleaning agent for metal, glass; also used as chemical reagent.
